Chief Underwriting Officer, North America Financial Lines
As Chief Underwriting Officer, Marek Krowka is responsible for driving connectivity across Financial Lines, particularly between the Underwriting, Claims, and Actuarial teams. He oversees the company’s Financial Lines universe which encompasses public and private D&O, EPL, Cyber, Professional Liability, M&A, Fiduciary, and Fidelity across North America and Bermuda. In this role, he is also responsible for managing stacking exposure and overall corporate aggregation. Working with Enterprise Risk Management and the Data & Analytics team, he analyzes exposure across key industry segments and product/coverage groups. He is actively engaged in the reinsurance purchasing process, driving consistency in approach and improving corporate margins. He is currently working on new product innovation, updating policy form language and coverage to best suit client needs and drive successful claims outcomes.
Marek joined AIG in November 2019 as the Head of Management Liability for the NY Zone focusing on the Private Non-Profit and Commercial (Public company) segments. During this time, he was responsible for steering portfolio strategy, improving profitability, driving forward AIG 200 initiatives (SCUP underwriting console) and talent development and retention. Before joining AIG, Marek was a Senior Vice President, Head of Healthcare at Arch Capital Group where he focused on active portfolio management, modernizing the operational infrastructure, and increasing workflow efficiency. During this time, he pioneered the underwriting team’s first Kaizen, successfully improving day to day operations, lowering the expense base, streamlining business processes, and improving data and analytics capture. From 2015 to 2018, Marek led Arch’s International Financial Lines desk out of the London office. He founded the Mergers and Acquisitions practice, wrote the policy form, and made key team hires. In addition, he oversaw key delegated underwriting relationships across various jurisdictions and products.
From 2009 – 2015, Marek worked within Arch’s Alternative Asset Protection division, focusing on insuring Private Equity firms, General Partnerships, Master Limited Partnerships, Business Development Companies, and Investment firms. He possessed strong relationships with leading clients, finding solutions for nuanced structures, portfolio company programs, and resolving claims in an efficient, effective manner. In this position he led a team of underwriters who enhanced the company’s underwriting processes through better portfolio management tools including, but not limited to, implementing a public debt tracking tool to monitor bankruptcy risk, and a large private equity firm stacking tool to mitigate exposure to consortium deals.
Before joining Arch, Marek worked at Hartford Financial Products for two years in the Private Equity division.
