Laura F. Coppola

Laura Coppola is the Chief Underwriting Officer for QBE North America. In this role, Laura is responsible for building capabilities that support business growth and profit, enabling cost-effective change and driving operational efficiency through enhanced underwriting capabilities.

Laura designs the product and pricing strategies that empower underwriters to make intelligent and profitable decisions. She shapes the overall direction of the business, identifies growth opportunities, innovates QBE’s product set, responds to market trends and drives profitability across the portfolio. Laura manages a staff of highly skilled individuals across the United States where she focuses her executive management and leadership skills on coaching individuals to success.

Laura has more than 25 years of underwriting experience. Before joining QBE, Laura was the Global Head of Financial and Professional Liability and the Head of Casualty North America for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. She led a team of over 100 individuals and was responsible for the second largest global book of business, comprised of a diversified portfolio of products and services. Prior to Swiss Re, Laura was the Regional Head of Financial Lines for Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty where she was responsible for the development, implementation and execution of the underwriting strategies for all management and professional liability business in North America. Laura was also a senior executive at Arch Insurance Group from 2002 to 2015 and held senior underwriting roles at Hartford Financial Products and Travelers Bond.

Laura holds a bachelor’s degree in English from SUNY Stony Brook and designations including Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) and Registered Professional Liability Underwriter
(RPLU). She is currently based in New York City.

Laura enjoys mentoring young professionals within the insurance industry and is an active member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS). She is a board member of The Bridge, a non-profit organization that supports the development of female talent in Financial Lines insurance and reinsurance.
